What Are The Long
There are several conditions that you could be at a higher risk of after menopause. Your risk for any condition depends on many things like your family history, your health before menopause and lifestyle factors . Two conditions that affect your health after menopause are osteoporosis and coronary artery disease.
Osteoporosis, a “brittle-bone” disease, occurs when the inside of bones become less dense, making them more fragile and likely to fracture. Estrogen plays an important role in preserving bone mass. Estrogen signals cells in the bones to stop breaking down.
Women lose an average of 25% of their bone mass from the time of menopause to age 60. This is largely because of the loss of estrogen. Over time, this loss of bone can lead to bone fractures. Your healthcare provider may want to test the strength of your bones over time. Bone mineral density testing, also called bone densitometry, is a quick way to see how much calcium you have in certain parts of your bones. The test is used to detectosteoporosis and osteopenia. Osteopenia is a disease where bone density is decreased and this can be a precursor to later osteoporosis.
If you have osteoporosis or osteopenia, your treatment options could include estrogen therapy.
Coronary artery disease

Are Post Menopausal Symptoms A Normal Part Of Aging
Contrary to popular belief, Julie says that the physical symptoms that occur during and after menopause are not inevitable. Or, at the very least, we can influence them through simple lifestyle changes.
For example, lets consider constipation, which many older women experience. Julie explains that there is a simple reason that this may be a problem for many women. As our bodies get older, they produce less bile. This contributes to soft stools.
This means that it is even more important for older women to make sure that they are getting the right amount of fiber in their diets. Ari Whitten:; And this has been sort of your bread and butter for a long time. I think you, I know you graduated from medical school, what, back in the early 80s or something or somewhere around there, late 70s?
Dr. Christiane Northrup:;In the 70s, in the 70s. Yeah. Yeah. So, Ive been at this for a while and, you know, back when the only hormone that was given was Premarin. Premarin stands for pregnant mares urine. So, its horse urine basically. And the reason why that was the gold standard was it was just sort of the first to the table was the main thing on that. And so, as I went along, I noticed there were other alternatives to that, but they werent as well known. And then I got into, in the early 90s, I met the people who were doing work with natural progesterone, bio-identical progesterone. And I found that this was working so much better than medroxyprogesterone acetate, which is a synthetic progestin. All birth control pills, by the way, are not native to the female body and they have side effects.
But if you take something in a lab and you make it different from something found in nature, its going to have totally different effects. Now, to this day, my colleagues do not seem to understand this difference. I just, its like its mind-blowing to me that my own profession cannot see the difference between the three

Review Of Indian Literature On Postmenopausal Syndrome
The average age of menopause in India is 47.5 years, with an average life expectancy of 71 years. Therefore, Indian women are likely to spend almost 23.5 years in menopause .
About 3540% women between 40 and 65 years have been diagnosed to suffer from osteopenia and 830% suffer from osteoporosis. All women over 65 years have been found to suffer from osteopenia or osteoporosis .
A study which analyzed a sample consisting of menopausal, premenopausal and postmenopausal women in the age range of 3550 years using a two-stage screening procedure for identifying and screening psychiatric morbidity General Health Questionnaire and Standard Psychiatric Interview, found highest psychiatric co-morbidity in the menopausal group, in terms of age maximum number of cases with psychiatric co-morbidity were from 41 to 45 years. Menopausal women suffered more symptoms of menopause as well as psychiatric symptoms as compared to premenopausal women. Both set of symptoms was found to be less in the postmenopause group also. The most common reported symptoms in the group were depression, depressive thoughts, anxiety, and excessive concern about bodily functions. Supporting the findings of the earlier study the predominant symptom in menopausal women was depression.

What About Hormone Replacement Therapies
HRT is certainly right for some people and goes a long way to helping one manage symptoms and reducing risk from certain chronic diseases as well. However, this must be assessed on a case-by-case basis, with the support of a qualified practitioner overseeing the prescription and the ongoing retesting while taking HRT. Unfortunately, the later mentioned area of ongoing testing rarely occurs, and this in some cases may lead to unwanted side effects or consequences to ones health.
It is suggested that those with an elevated risk of cardiovascular disease, blood clots, estrogen sensitive cancers, gallstones or dementia should approach HRT with caution. In fact, I think everyone should approach it with caution and test and review regularly to try and ensure it is a safe as possible. The idea of HRT is that it is for temporary use as the body transitions, but in some cases no use or even longer-term use is perfectly acceptable. It should also be noted that the research is very mixed in this area, especially around the cardiovascular and dementia risk/benefit associated with HRT.
There are also other HRT options, utilising what is known as bio-identical hormone replacement therapy . BHRT are manmade hormones derived from plant estrogens and are chemically identical to what the human body produces. These can come in various forms, including creams, patches, gels, pills and injections.
What Are Irregular Periods
Most women have menstrual cycles that last between 21 and 35 days. Up to one quarter of women experience irregular periods. This includes having periods that are shorter or longer than usual or periods that are lighter or heavier than usual. Some women who have irregular periods may experience abdominal cramping or a lack of ovulation. Amenorrhea is a medical term that refers to an absence of periods for at least 3 months even though a woman is not pregnant. Menorrhagia is the term that means excessive menstrual bleeding. Dysmenorrhea refers to pain and cramping during periods. Prolonged menstrual bleeding involves periods in which bleeding routinely lasts for 8 days or longer. Oligomenorrhea is a condition in which periods occur infrequently or more than every 35 days. See your doctor if you believe hormonal imbalance is affecting your menstrual cycle.

Exercise can help balance cortisol, the stress hormone. Balancing cortisol is important because having too much can cause sleep, memory, and anxiety problems, while too little could put you at risk of depression.
In addition, exercising regularly has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity, which supports healthy hormone levels amongst other benefits such as increased energy, muscle strength, and an improved outlook on life.

Top Five Tips For Rebalancing Hormones
Maintain a healthy diet. Incorporate fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, plus raw nuts and seeds into your diet. Avoid high fatty foods, processed carbohydrates, fried foods, soft drinks, enriched flour, and processed vegetable oil. Avoid non-organic dairy products, which may contain harmful bovine growth hormones, steroids and antibiotics.
